Ruth G. Cervantes-Casiño
Over the years (more than 20 years), we have shared in so much -- all the joys and the tears that time brings. Over the years, I have treasured your friendship as one of life's most special things!
My wish for your birthday is that we will always be as close as we are today...
...and that today and all your tomorrows will be filled with the same kind of happiness your friendship has given me.
Happy Birthday, Baby Ruth!

Pareng Mike and Ka Roger
Yesterday, I greeted two men in my life celebrating their birthdays. Pareng Mike turned 27 while Ka Roger turned 28.
Mike called around 9am and I was singing on top of my lungs the birthday song. I was very happy to hear good news about his current post and love life.
Mike is the type of person who remembers to inform you about his current achievements and whether to say hello or just to let you know that he’s thinking of you, he’ll definitely make the effort. Suwerte talaga ng mga naging girlfriend at magiging girlfriend nito! He even invited me for a round of drinks at 4pm but with my current state, I declined and told him that WE will have drinks soon with the rest of the group.
Ka Roger on the other hand celebrated his birthday dinner at my place with his lovable girl, Jannice – aka my “little sister” and the very charming Maricel.
We enjoyed a filling meal of Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Barbecue and a full serving of Nido Oriental Soup. Yum! As for dessert, nobody can top the Midnight Choco Fudge Cake, Selecta’s Limited Edition Ice Cream Rendition of Chocolate Mouse and healthy bananas.
Though our dinner was cut short because of the distance in going home to their respective residences (as usual, they forget to bring clothes for a sleepover), we had plenty of laughs and kabusugan to last until our next chikahan.
Happy birthday, Pareng Mike and Ka Roger! Salut!

Party Favors
For this year we are ahead of schedule and preparing early compared to last year’s Trick or Treat at my parent’s place.
I was not able to get pictures last Sunday while I was busy completing 100 party favors for the village kids. However, I still have to complete some trinkets for the loot bags on Friday so I will just post more pictures later.
Here are some of the contents of the party favors for Saturday, 28th of October.
My EQ was very high while I was preparing such party favors! Whew!

Dance with Me
I was browsing through different channels before hitting the sack when I saw the final clips of Shadows of the Sun, a feel-good movie, and I can’t help but squeal with delight that I forgot that my throat hurts.
I heart Joshua Jackson! Yes, I do! He belongs to the top list of “men” I heart and would really squeal to death. I admire looking at his eyes and the way he reminds me of George Clooney. I love him as Charlie Conway, as Lucas "Luke" McNamara, the lovable Pacey Witter and with his latest roles as Jeremy Taylor and Duncan Shorter.
Josh is awesome and very hot!
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have the magic technique
When we sway I go weak

Bloggers to Register?!
I was browsing through the breaking news section and this one caught my fancy.
China's Internet Bloggers Must Register -- Xinhua
Beijing (XFN-ASIA) - China intends to require its 17 million Internet bloggers to register under their real names, state press reported. Under the system, bloggers would be allowed to continue using their online pseudonyms, but must register with authorities under their real names, the Xinhua news agency said.
The real name requirement is an ''unavoidable choice'' if China wants to properly develop its blogging community, Xinhua quoted the head of the Internet Society of China Huang Chengqing as saying.
The society is the state-controlled organization in charge of developing the new system.
Xinhua said some bloggers used their anonymity to disseminate ''irresponsible and untrue'' information, and called them a ''bad influence''. However, the agency also recognised there could be privacy and free-speech concerns.
Huang acknowledged the concerns over free expression, but said there needed to be a balance between freedom and responsible Web use. Huang gave no firm timetable for implementing the system.
China has 123 million Internet users, according to reports.
Will this ever happen in the Philippines? Hmm… I wonder if this will create chaos among Filipino bloggers?

Sistahud with Kids
She’s back in Reseda after a short trip to Manila to pay respect to her Dad. Now she’s absolutely in her happiest state, since her two lovable kids are with her.
I’ll see them in a few winks and for sure it would be a hilarious get-together with tons of sightseeing and food trip!
Now, if only the rest of the Sistahud will tag along - then it would definitely be a blast.

Tu Recuerdo!
My all time love, Ricky Martin, just recorded his MTV Unplugged CD/DVD. His first single, Tu Recuerdo, is already playing on the radio and will definitely make it to the #1 spot on the charts.
Ricky Martin is the star of the 19th MTV UNPLUGGED production for MTV Latin America. “Returning with a career defining album, Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged showcases Ricky’s depth as a performer and invites you to an intimate, acoustic platform where Ricky rediscovers his music and reinvents some of his most popular hits.”

A definite must for all RM fans… can’t wait for November 7, 2006!

Michael Finally Calls Sara
Michael was so emotional, it was heart wrenching. I think his love for Sara is for real and they will get together soon, though I don’t know how they will do it.
The best line for me during the phone conversation was "it was real Sara, you & me, it's real."
Whew, kilig to the bones!

Na na na... Kalabit Penge!
Recently Bulaga’s Dabarkads are growing in number. From Ruby Rodriguez, Toni Rose Gayda, now you’ll see the faces of Pauleen Luna, Julia Clarete and Cindy Kurleto.
Last Saturday, it was Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola who opened the show and sang one of their singles from their new album. I had fun listening to the song and the beat makes my feet do the dancing. Not only was the song catchy but even the lyrics are hilarious. For sure the song would be a big hit.
Kalabit Penge
Performed by: Jose and Wally
Album: Try Mo Lang! Sony BMG Music
Na na na na na na na na na kalabit penge
Na na na na na na na na na kalabit penge
Kahit san ka mang lugar ay may katulad ko
Naghihintay lamang sayo
Kapitbahay mo, kaibigan, tropa kahit na ano
Asahan mong ako ay parang asong susunod sayo
Sa birthday, kasalan,
Sa lamay, binyagan,
Pag libre
Andyan na ako
Chorus
Kahit hindi imbitado
Kalabit Penge
Makikitulog pa sa inyo
Kalabit Penge
Pag utusan mo,
Alilain mo,
Ok lang sakin pare ko
Basta't sagot mong bisyo ko (Ay sarap no)
Repeat chorus
Pag utusan mo
Alilain mo
Before I forget, just by listening with Kalabit Penge, not only I was smiling because of the beat but I was smiling because I remembered a number of people I’ve met before that were exact examples of the character personified in the song.
Can you just imagine people who would just wait for graces without having to work for it? That is such a very interesting thought…

Great Gifts to Give
Another goodie from Rex’s site…
These priceless gifts are not seasonal. We can give them all year long. As we give them, we will find that giving enriches the giver as much as the recipient. These gifts are worth a million dollars, but they don't cost a cent.
1. The Gift of Listening
But you really have to listen. No interrupting, no planning your response. Just listening.
2. The Gift of Affection
Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back, and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate your love for family and friends.
3. The Gift of Laughter
Clip cartoons. Share great articles and funny stories. E-mail especially good ones to people you know are feeling blue. Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you."
4. The Gift of A Written Note
It can be a simple "I love you" or "Thanks for your help." A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.
5. The Gift of A Sincere Compliment
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job," or "That was a wonderful meal," can make someone's day.
6. The Gift of A Favor
Every day, go out of your way to do something kind. Try it on your way to work, or wherever you go today.
7. The Gift of Solitude
There are times when we want only to be left alone. Be sensitive to other people's feelings, and give the gift of solitude to others.
8. The Gift of Good Cheer
The easiest way to feel good is to make others feel good
Try some of these out. Start now!

Rules to Live and Love By
The very sexy Rhea posted in her blog Kathy Freston’s Rules for Finding True Love. I can’t help but smile with them (rules). I dedicate those rules to my bubbly friend Minah and I do hope that the right one will be knocking in front of her door... soon.
Ten Rules
1. Seeing your partner through the lens of love rather than fear automatically elevates the relationship to a higher plane. When you can get quiet and note when you are projecting fear, you can make the adjustment to see through a different filter. So often we feel indignant or incensed, but upon closer inspection we will find that we are really afraid. Once we assume our partner's core goodness rather than focusing on their "guilt," they will be more free to show us their best, which accelerates the process of shifting our perspective from one of blame and anxiety to one of acceptance and peace.
2. Being willing to forgive yourself and your partner, and to make amends when necessary is an ongoing process of cleanup. We all make mistakes; it's human. But when we hold fast to a grudge it eats away at our sense of peace and serenity. If you aren't willing to forgive, you might ask yourself what habit of ego you're attached to. Do you want to continue life with unresolved issues hanging over you? When we take a stand and refuse to let go of something, we can always find evidence to justify it. Or we can try to make peace. Instead of blaming or making excuses, we can clean things up and move forward. This is not an excuse for staying in a dysfunctional situation, but an opportunity to see innocence. Once we do that, we gain—or give—freedom to move out of a "stuck" place.
3. Relaxing when times get tough; assuming that "this too shall pass" allows you to roll with the punches. If you know things will inevitably arise to challenge you, you can be more detached when they do. Problems become worse when we dig in our heels and try to force a solution. By relaxing into whatever struggle arises, we remain flexible and open to inspiration and insight. Even if you have a hard time letting go, you can at least observe yourself taking things very seriously, which in itself helps to detach you from the experience of anxiety. Whatever is happening now won't be happening a year from now, so just keep breathing through the situation and see if you can take things a little less seriously.
4. Seeing in the dynamic of the relationship the reflection of what you need to learn helps bring you back to what is important. Sometimes we get lost in the chatter of day-to-day patterns and lose sight of the soul's mandate to bring us closer to realizing our Oneness. The best way to see where we need to work on things is to observe who we are and what we do within the context of a relationship. Any time you recognize your impulse to create distance rather than intimacy, you can make the adjustment and get back on track. This relationship, as with all relationships, is part of a curriculum to evolve into our highest potential. We come to know ourselves by how we interact with our partner, and by so doing we come to know Spirit.
5. When you don't know how to handle a problem, pray and meditate, surrendering the decisions to Spirit. Praying and meditating aligns your limited energy with that which is all-powerful. Of course we don’t have all the answers, but by consigning our limitations to our Higher Power, our burden is lifted. We need to be accountable for our words and actions and be willing to work through where we are stuck. We need to stay present and forgive. Beyond that, our creative power is fueled by Spirit. By praying, we ask for help and guidance; by meditating we clear our minds so that the answer will become apparent. By moving aside, we create an opening for God to work miracles in ways we could never imagine.
6. Honoring your partner's path and allow them the space to find their own way sends a clear message of respect. People need to work things out in their own manner and in their own time. If you try to help where help is not requested, you are signaling your lack of belief in your partner. If you back off and assume someone is strong and intelligent, strength and intelligence are what they will likely find. Although we are all on this path of realization and expansion together, each of us is unique in our lessons to be learned; the way you do something might be totally different than how someone else needs to process a situation. Rest assured that Spirit is at work in all of our lives, and give yourself a rest from overseeing your partner's personal business.
7. Keeping up your personal growth work means you will keep your mind sharp and your awareness keen. Read, study, and attend lectures; don't rest on the laurels of what you think you already know. The moment we think we have it all figured out is the moment things will come crashing down around us. Arrogance leaves no room for intimacy or growth, and is certainly not part of a spiritual curriculum. When you immerse yourself in learning, you will always have new skills and interests to apply to a relationship, and thus the relationship will always feel fresh and relevant.
8. Following the path of your own creativity keeps you attuned to that which moves and inspires you. As you indulge your creative side, you become less dependent on your partner to feel whole. Creative energy is the force that breaks new ground. To sustain love, we need to continually fuel whatever inspires us on the deepest level. Also, creativity balances out the egoic and intellectual side of life; it teaches us to play and have fun. When we engage our passions, we radiate passionate energy and thus maintain the interest of our partner as well as having your own sense of fulfillment.
9. Staying present keeps us in the moment which is where life is. Life does not exist in future predictions or past grievances; all we have for sure is right here and right now. Every moment teaches us something, and if we are busily trying to change or control something we miss the grace intended for us. By allowing the sacred mystery to unfold without trying to tamper with it, we can move through anything with much more ease and simplicity. As we cease resisting, any so-called negative situation or emotion will have the space to work out. And by the same token, when we are completely alert and aware in any given moment, we are open to the subtle miracles happening all around us. By staying present, we will see our partner for who they are; we will hear clearly their communication and respond to it astutely.
10. Staying present keeps us in the moment which is where life is. Life does not exist in future predictions or past grievances; all we have for sure is right here and right now. Potatoes
I was bloghopping earlier when I saw Geralyn’s entry on Mouse Potatoes. I smiled and then I laughed so hard that the other coffee addicts sitting on the next table looked at me differently.
Mouse potato (mows pohtaytoh) is a person who spends a lot of time at the computer. It is the computer equivalent of television’s couch potato. This word appeared originally in Gareth Branwyn's Jargon Watch column, in the January 1994 issue of Wired magazine.
Just like Geralyn, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen (with Harry, Carmen or Peter; Sir Igor, what’s the pet name you mentioned earlier?) and I do consider myself a Mouse Potato.
Why? Because I work online for about 7 to 8 hours a day and I tend to spend a great deal of my leisure time just surfing around.
Though you won’t call me a couch potato or a cellphone addict, my wrist and index finger is constantly surfing from one site to another. Surfing for what? Do ask Elline and she will definitely say that we love to read on lots of goodies on … Oops! Sorry it is our little secret!

Chinese Feast and Tons of Laughs
Ma’am Thucy is a very cool professor and super friendly. She’s Chloe’s former boss at UP Diliman and even though she’s not anymore my sister’s superior she remains close to her.
I was able to meet her number of times and I really liked her. She’s so sweet, smart, caring and she makes the best leche flan.
She’s currently in Toyama City, Japan and completing her post-doctoral studies. We regularly communicate, I love chatting with her and I do enjoy her stories and pieces of advice.
Recently she visited Manila for a 10-day vacation and we met her for dinner. She’s still pretty as ever and we were able to meet her other friends namely Sir Joel, Ms. Claudette and Ms. Lani. All three are colleagues, former UP-NSRI RA’s and professionals just like her. Len was also present, a former RA of Ma’am Thucy with Chloe.
We all enjoyed the Chinese feast and enjoyed the company with tons of laughter and good stories. Thanks so much Ma’am Thucy for dinner and the Japanese crackers.
We do hope to see you next year in Japan for the Cherry Blossoms Festival. Arigatou. Kiwotsukete, Ma’am Thucy!

Keep Smiling!
Another goodie from Rex Barker’s site…
Do you ever wonder what people are feeling when they smile? Do they smile because they're happy or do they smile because they want people to believe they're happy? Maybe they smile because they want you to smile and be happy.
A smile can touch a person's life in ways you can never imagine. It's infectious and can cause a chain reaction. It can be memorable to someone you pass on the street or the mall or driving... and it only takes a split second to smile and forget, yet... to someone that needed it, it can last a lifetime. Maybe I should smile more often.
A smile is like a flame. A flame can ignite another flame without lessening itself. The same is with smiles. Your smiles cause someone else to smile - and you both end up smiling even more.

13 People on My Mind
From the very sexy Tuesday...
Can you name 13 people you can think of right off the top of your head? Don't read the questions underneath until you write the names of all 13 people...This is a lot funnier if you actually randomly list the names first...No Cheating!!!

Do you think 5 is cute?
… Ofcourse, lahat naman ng Sistahuds eh cute saka kapag nakita mo si Mary Ann sasabihin mo talagang cute siya.
Tell me something about number 1:
… Bestfriend Ruth is somebody that I consider a part of my family. Kilalang kilala siya ng parents at cheeblings ko at pati ang mga sangkaterba niyang mga naging lalaki sa buhay eh kilala ko rin. She’s an activist, a good mother and a loving wife. Actually baka maging nobela kung ikukuwento ko sino si Ruth sa buhay ni Ralline Jean.
How do you know 8?
… I interviewed Jannice for a post last April 2005, naging staff ko siya then later on she became one of my dearest friends.
What's 7's favorite color?

Would you ever live with 5?
… Yun na lang ang hindi namin nagagawa nila Mary Ann, why not?
Is 2 single?
… Yes, single and available si Agri.
Where does 7 live?
… Rick now lives in Baguio City with his wife and four kids.
what do you think about 12?
… Si Elinore or Nhore eh palaban at dakilang pasaway
Whats the worst and best thing about 11?

… Worst thing about Reyna – Tamad magreply sa text, email at sa snail mail
What do you like about number 3?
… Totoong tao si Adina and she loves her kids to the max
Note: Hindi ko na ita-tag sa iba... para masaya... hehehe!!
Being Single
One of my sister’s close friends from MaSci is very open with his feelings and his words. I was reading his blog earlier, I can’t help but agree to what he wrote, and somehow it made me realize that I for one am still single.
I have been contemplating why most of my friends are single. Looking at them, they are eye candies, mature (I think), driven, motivated and all other qualities that most of us are looking for a partner but they are sticking to their status. I have been synching with some of them through electronic means and here are some of the best reasons inferring from our conversations....
- Most of them are at the stage of building a life-long career. Everyone is just hell too busy, that is why the electronic conversation most of the time. In fact, most of them are asserting themselves in their businesses or companies they are working at and all are on their way to the top (God bless them on this). Therefore, the time for dates, etc. are instead focused onto overtimes, even on weekends.
- Life right now is a lot harder than 5 years ago, when most of them were still students. And now that they are on their toes trying to tie their own shoes, a life full of complications is hard enough to handle, more so with an excess baggage that you can take some other time. Quoting a friend: "pucha ang hirap na ng buhay ngayon papahirapan mo pa dahil nagdagdag ka pa ng isang responsibilidad".
- Most of them are jaded little bitches and bastards who do not want to care anymore for the past took most of what they were holding onto. From third parties, to pregnancies, to trial-and-errors, most of them are shouting pain and grievances. (Wish ko lang wag masyadong jaded, di ba?) So some are still healing while others are still hurt.
- So since most of them are jaded, they are just waiting for the right person to come along, without even lifting a finger. In other words, nagmamahaba ng buhok. But in my personal opinion, they have all the right to do so.
Raf, for me being single at my age is by choice and I don’t regret that for a day. I am who I am. I see my friends who are not single anymore and yet they hate the world for the relationships they are in! They always wanted to change shoes with us and I can't blame them. There are times I pity them whenever I hear their stories especially the sad ones! Sometimes I envy their joys to which they actually happen.
Nevertheless, let’s have fun and enjoy our current state and try to learn from the experiences of our friends. We miss you, Rafael!

Friday Getaway
We agreed to get our PRC licenses all at the same time and bond for the day. We met for lunch, had a few laughs while talking about the usual stuff and had a blast over Chinese lunch before going to PRC.
Coming from Makati Avenue, we took a cab going to P. Paredes and took us about an hour and a half just to get to the PRC office. We were not so lucky that day since Mendiola-Legarda was closed because of a demonstration. Hence, traffic was so bad.
It only took us a few minutes to get are new licenses and though our pictures looked weird, at least it’s good for another three years. As we left the compound, it began to rain. Good thing all three of us brought along umbrellas. We hailed a cab and went back to Makati.
We agreed to go to Walter Mart Makati and were so glad that it only took less than 45 minutes to go back.
We hurriedly ran to the Cinema Level (better check the theater seats, Elline loved them!) to catch the 4pm screening. After the movie, Elline was able to get her cravings of the Amici gelato and even Marianna enjoyed the ice cream. I just watched them nibbling the delicious Italian dessert.
To end our very tiring day, we shared another Chinese meal and gladly posed for pictures. For Maria who’s currently in LA, we miss you.

Petroleum Buddies
There are times when it is easier to meet spontaneously, not by setting dates. Though we work side by side and have been exchanging regular emails; we still long for the actual interaction and exchanging of rants and raves.
One of the things I treasure most in my life is my friends. If I could make an invisible quilt for my friends, to wrap around them so they could wear my love as a shield to protect them and keep them safe in this world, I would.
Earlier today, I was out for some chores when I received calls from two of my dearest friends. I dropped everything scheduled for the day and hurriedly left for lunch. The reason for the urgent call cannot be divulged in these ramblings because persons involved can actually read this blog.
It was nice to see them both. One was sporting a new haircut and the other is still sexy as ever. Much as we wanted to go on with our conversations, we didn’t. The time spent we spent today was enough to build up one’s encouragement, keep the chin up and smile!
As the prices of the products of our trade continue to increase, I can only say that whenever we need pick-me-ups, a little laughter or a little advice, we can always count on each other.

The Mirror
Another goodie from Rex’s site…
A school head was alerted by the caretaker to a persistent problem in the girls lavatories: some of the girl students were leaving lipstick kisses on the mirrors. The caretaker had left notices on the toilet walls asking for the practice to cease, but to no avail; every evening the caretaker would wipe away the kisses, and the next day lots more kisses would be planted on the mirror. It had become a bit of a game. The head teacher usually took a creative approach to problem solving, and so the next day she asked a few girl representatives from each class to meet with her in the lavatory.
"Thank you for coming," said the head, "You will see there are several lipstick kisses in the mirrors in this washroom...”
Some of the girls grinned at each other.
"As you will understand, modern lipstick is cleverly designed to stay on the lips, and so the lipstick is not easy at all to clean from the mirrors. We have therefore had to develop a special cleaning regime, and my hope is that when you see the effort involved you will help spread the word that we'd all be better off if those responsible for the kisses use tissue paper instead of the mirrors in future.."
At this point the caretaker stepped forward with a sponge squeegee, which he took into one of the toilet cubicles, dipped into the toilet bowl, and then used to clean one of the lipstick-covered mirrors.
The caretaker smiled. The girls departed. And there were no more lipstick kisses on the mirrors.
When you have challenges in your dealings with family, friends and business associate, think creatively: What is important to them, what motivates the other person. Solving problems creatively is always the preferred approach to being at odds with one another.

A Few Rules of Life
Lerman's Law of Technology: Any technical problem can be overcome given enough time and money. Corollary: You are never given enough time or money.
Murphy's First Law for Wives: If you ask your husband to pick up five items at the store and then you add one more as an afterthought, he will forget two of the first five.
Law of the Search: The first place to look for anything is the last place you would expect to find it. Corollary: It will not be in the last place you expect to find it.
Kauffman's Paradox of the Corporation: The less important you are to the corporation, the more your tardiness or absence is noticed.
The Salary Axiom: The pay raise is just large enough to increase your taxes and just small enough to have no effect on your take-home pay.
Miller's Law of Insurance: Insurance covers everything except what happens.
First Law of Living: As soon as you start doing what you always wanted to be doing, you'll want to be doing something else.

More Than Just a Smile
Smile at Me
(Close Up To Fame Theme)
Performed by: Rocksteddy
Funny how I fell for you
And the day you caught my eye
And my life have never been the same
Since the day I saw your smile.
As you shine above from everyone
You stand out from the crowd
Somehow I can't find words to say
You're indescribable.
And you sweep me off my feet
Everytime you smile at me, at me, at me, at me...
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me.
There's this feeling that I can't hide
That I couldn't get enough of you
I can't deny, I'm mesmerized
By the beauty of your smile.
'Cause you knock me off my seat
Everytime you smile at me, at me, at me, at me...
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me.
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me...

Friendships
Another goodie from Rex Barker’s site…
Some Thoughts on Friendship
- True friendship never ends.
- Don't cry over anyone who won't cry over you.
- Actions speak louder than words.
- Good friends are like stars...You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.
- Life's short. If you don't look around once in a while, you might miss it.
- If you think that the world means nothing, think again. You might mean the world to someone else.
- Don't let the past hold you back; you're missing the good stuff.
- A best friend is like a four leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have.
Rex is reminding everyone that friendship is a two way street. You have to both give and receive. Today do something unexpected for a dear friend.
Hmm… Ja, what do you think?

Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
I am sharing Rex Barker’s thoughts on relationships. Read on…
"In Life, we have constant interactions with others. There are healthy interactions and unhealthy ones. What defines one versus the other. The primary difference is energetic. Are you both benefiting from the relationship or is one just taking and the other giving?
A healthy relationship is where both parties are giving and receiving and are honestly trying to help one another. This can be a healthy marriage, a close friendship or a win-win business relationship.
All too often, we find ourselves in unhealthy relationships, where we keep giving and giving, and the other person keeps taking and taking. I am not referring to a charity-type situation, where it seems that one is giving and the other is taking. (Although, in truth, the giver is actually receiving tremendous benefit from giving).
We all have so-called friends we associate with, who are always asking for something, want you as a sounding board for ideas or a shoulder to cry on during difficult times, but who are not there for you when you need them. Or someone in business who always calls you for advice, but is quiet when you ask for it."
As Rex Barker’s reminder, each of us should go through our relationships, one by one. Some unhealthy ones may be salvaged if the person is considerate at heart and made aware of his or her apparently unintentional behavior. But most unhealthy relationships often can not be saved. And the important thing for you to realize is that you are not honoring yourself by being in these unhealthy relationships. So start honoring yourself and find healthy ones today.
This reminds me… Sistahuds, don’t worry about me, I am cultivating healthy relationships!

After 12 years of waiting...
Freehand
By: Mario E. Bautista
Keanu was projected as an action star and did the The Matrix series, while Sandra starred in endearing comedies like While You Were Sleeping and Miss Congeniality. When Keanu refused to do Speed 2, it flopped.
Now, they’re together again in a fantasy-romance that is the remake of a Korean movie made in 2000, Siworae or Il Mare, which is probably the same film which inspired GMA Films’ romance about calendar-challenged lovers, Moments Of Love.

We haven’t seen the original, so we don’t know what changes Argentinian director Alejandro Agresti (Valentin, The Act In Question) and his scriptwriter David Auburn (Proof) made in the Hollywood version. But judging from the finished product, we daresay that Moments Of Love is an even more affecting well-told love story than this one.
The movie starts with Kate Forster (Sandra), a doctor, departing from the glass house of the title, perched on stilts over Lake Michigan, to work in a Chicago hospital. She leaves a letter in its mailbox requesting the next tenant to forward her mail to her new address and apologizing for the paw prints her dog left behind.
Alex Wyler (Keanu), an architect, moves in and sees Kate’s letter, but he doesn’t see any paw prints, although a dog does appear later to keep him company.
The two lonely hearts start exchanging notes through a time-traveling mailbox whose red flag goes up and down like magic to indicate that they are receiving new letters. Alex lives in 2004 while Kate lives in 2006, unlike the lovers in Moments Of Love who have a 50-year difference.
To enjoy this kind of vehicle, you have to accept it mainly as a whimsical fairy tale since if you’d insist on logic, you will only spoil the narrative. But even if you buy its basic idea, the script should still try to give it a semblance of reality and credibility for us to somehow relish it.
The first kink for us is the fact that we live in the era of the Internet and cellphones. It is so easy for Alex or Kate to research on the Net about each other, and yet they don’t do it. Also, they would have simplified things if they’d just write down each other’s cell-phone numbers or put a copy of their photos inside the mailbox. If the romance was set in the ’50s or ’60s, the story would have been more credible.
But if you’re willing to overlook its lapses, you might still enjoy the film as the chemistry between Keanu and Sandra remains very appealing and they manage to sustain the human element in this fantasy love story.
The trouble with the movie is that it aims for more profundity with subplots which are ne-ver fully realized. Kate is given her own boyfriend, uptight lawyer Morgan (Dylan Walsh), but whatever happens to them is never made clear. Alex has a strained relationship with his father Simon (Christopher Plummer), a more accomplished architect, and this father-and-son drama only distracts us from the movie’s main focus, which should be the story of two lovers trying to connect across time.
These pretensions to family conflicts only bog the film down and make it so slow-moving and even less convincing as the story plods along.
Sandra takes her role as the sad single career woman too seriously that she looks so glum and passionless throughout most of The Lake House, failing to supply the energy the picture so badly needs even when she’s playing chess with her dog.
Keanu fares better as the architect who gets more upbeat when he feels that true love is coming into his life, especially after he gets a copy of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, which Sandra leaves behind in a train station. Fairly adequate in supporting roles are Christopher Plummer as Keanu’s imperious dad who built the lake house many years ago for his mom and Shohreh Agdashloo (House Of Sand And Fog) as Sandra’s doctor friend and understanding boss.
Don’t worry, though, as the vehicle has the obligatory and conventional happy ending. Still, it feels so tacked-on, only the truly gullible will be satisfied with it.
What the film really succeeds in doing is displaying the beautiful architecture of the facades of various homes and buildings in Chicago that are shown here in abundance.

They’re definitely even more wonderful than the glass lake house referred to in the title. And if only for that, the movie may still be worth seeing.
Owie Smowie, watch na watch na ako!

Misses
Even though I have a little bit of freedom lately, I still cannot seem to meet with some of my friendly friends. I miss having long chats with them, having good food and just fooling around and having fun. Though I see some of my dearest friends regularly and talk to them lengthy on the phone, I haven’t seen these ones physically for quite some time.
1) Ruth G. Cervantes-Casiño. Best friend! Although we exchange emails, YM chats, SMS, I miss her physically. I miss her laughter, her usual banter regarding my boylets, her sermons about my so-called friends and my godchild, Elian. Baby Ruth!!!!!
2) Mary Grace A. De Ramon. Gracey! Bar none, the sweetest girl in my life. Malapit na ang birthday niya and I have to be there for her this year, missed her last year because I got sick. Don’t worry, will call Tita Betsy soon!
3) Adina Benosa-Manansala. She’s my regular lunch buddy at Shell House. I consider her my “ate” and adviser for the everyday troubles. We see each other everyday online but I long for the actual sound of her voice and the way she looks at me and especially the way we look at people. Dins, takasan mo muna si Alvin!
4) Aileen Espinosa-Magrimbao. I call her Seksi and she calls me Siksik. She’s my ultimate movie cum lunch buddy at Pilipinas Shell. I owe her chocolate cakes and a few greens. We usually schedule our dates but work and a few conflicts tend to break our plans.
5) Arvin Frank G. Daquioag. Whenever I see somebody orders 3 cups of rice for lunch, I always think of Arvin. Just like Seksi, I owe him a chocolate cake. Arvs, wag masyadong magpakapagod sa Petron!
6) Cherryl Chua and Divina Delasin. Golf and gimik buddies. Our distance is the main reason. Miss ko na kayong dalawa!
7) Andrea C. Calonzo. Heidi! Ang pinakamagandang Administrative Assistant na nakilala ko at super bait! Wedding bells na ba?
8) Geraldine Esguerra-Longa and Rizalina Ambas. Roommate and Sally! Lunch tayo kapag hindi na kayo toxic! Japanese tayo ulit with Menchu.
9) Zarah Suzanne E. Villanueva. Princess Zarah or Zsa Zsa. Dónde está usted? Busy con el trabajo? Almorcemos la cena y pronto.
10) Iyra Buenrostro, Jeremy Arevalo, Michael Villanueva, Marvin Vergara, and Norman Noor Azman. Kiddies! Cutie, Verbose and the Bodyguards. Sa birthday kaya tayo ni Ma’am Buenrostro magkitakits?
If I list everybody, I might have to fill in a lot of space. Ha, ha, ha! Why them…
…simply because, they’re worth missing. Love you all!

Romantic and Beautiful
Performed by: The Corrs and Bryan White, Leann Rimes, David Foster
From the smash Warner Bros. animated motion picture "Quest for Camelot," comes this soaring, gracious ballad.
Look at the sky tell me what do you see
Just close your eyes and describe it to me
The heavens are sparkling with starlight tonight
That's what I see through your eyes.
I see the heavens each time that you smile
I hear your heartbeat just go on for miles
And suddenly I know why life is worthwhile
That's what I see through your eyes
That's what I see through your eyes.
Here in the night, I see the sun
Here in the dark, our two hearts are one
Its out of our hands, we can't stop what we have begun
And love just took me by surprise, looking through your eyes.
I see a night I wish could last forever
I see a world we're meant to see together
And it is so much more than I remember
More than I remember
More than I have known.
Here in the night, I see the sun
Here in the dark, our two hearts are one
Its out of our hands, we can't stop what we have begun
And love just took me by surprise, looking through your eyes
Looking through your eyes.
One of my ultimate favorites. Very good love song and has a very haunting melody. If you are hopelessly in love, this song is a need.

Agripina C. Banigoos
She is always present. She will be there at my doorstep and she never forgets. I do not have to call her or remind her of a particular event, even my birthday. Present or no present at all, she always brightens my day.
For this year, present ulit ang friendship ko! Though I am not available on the exact date of my birthday, she wanted to go to where I was kahit na medyo out of reach; she was persistent, kaso mas persistent ako na hindi puede. He,he,he.
Carrying with her merienda good for two, Wendy’s chicken burger with fries and Biggie Size Iced-Tea, gifts and birthday card, I met Agripina "Agri" C. Banigoos in front of our house. Just like the previous dates that we have, we are wearing the same shade of shirts. Red shirts again though I changed into a Pink Mossimo shirt because I am all wet with sweat from the terrible Manila heat. We just cannot help ourselves laughing while going inside the house.
I was busy working, brought home some unfinished deadlines, while eating the merienda Agri bought we were so noisy chattering about the latest stuff from our different world. Whenever I am with Agri, I feel very light and jolly. Her laughter is very addictive. I keep on removing my glasses so that I will not work with my laptop. Quality time with a friend is a topmost task.
I had fun opening her gifts, I loved the Bubblegum glass, love na love ko ang Bubblegum characters and I really liked the cellphone accessory she gave me. Mabilis pa sa alas-kuwatro eh nakabit ko na sa N70 ko ang thingy! So cute! But I told Agri, I’ll keep the thingy with my birthday stuff para nakadisplay at hindi maluma, I’ll use muna the gift for a week then I’ll keep it. Ayaw kong mahingi or mawala! Very precious!
Though our time was shortened because of other appointments (usually kasi may singing sessions and movie sessions pa kami with matching iyakan) I know that it is not only me who enjoyed the visit.
Love you, Agri!

If I Could Turn Back Time
Turn Back Time
Peformed by: Aqua
Released: 1997
Label: Universal
Give me time to reason,
give me time to think it through
Passing through the season,
where I cheated you
I will always have a cross to wear,
but the bolt reminds me I was there
So give me strength,
to face this test tonight
If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night. For the night...
Claim your right to science
Claim your right to see the truth
Though my pangs of conscience,
Will drill a hole in you
I seen it coming like a thief in the night,
I seen it coming from the flash of your light
So give me strength,
to face this test tonight
If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time..
I would stay for the night
The bolt reminds me I was there
the bolt reminds me I was there
If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night
[repeat chorus until fades out]
I was updating the list of songs in my mp3 player and I cannot help but recall some cute episodes in my life while this song was playing. I just love this song. I cannot get enough of hearing it.

And The Most Important Man In My Life.
