Difference between Joy and Pleasure

As we move along the path in life, in search of many things, we often make the mistake of seeking short-term pleasure at the cost of long-term joy. Many people confuse the two. Imagine going out to a gourmet restaurant every night for a month and feasting on great meals and luscious desserts. This is pleasure. But look at yourself in the mirror after that month and I don’t think you will be so joyous. As joy is much deeper, it is being deeply satisfied with an accomplishment. If instead, you had put together a serious program, of eating healthy and fitness – and worked on it for 6 months – you would actually feel the joy of accomplishment and joy of where you are.

Pleasure generally requires no effort. Joy on the other hand, has an aspect of pleasure, but its core existence is connected to working hard and succeeding at something. Joy is seeing your children graduate college or moving into a new home. Joy is the feeling after you have learned a new language or have elevated yourself spiritually. Pleasure is not something negative at all. It is a gift we have been given. We just have to learn moderation and to appreciate true vs. passing values.

Push hard in life and you will see real joy.

happiness, love and feelings of peace,
find their way to you,
lasting a lifetime through.

Takatatakatakatakatakatak

He is back with a new hit, and for sure, this will create a big following among the Dabarkads (what else but the Eat Bulaga fanatics). The song and the dance step (as if you are dribbling an invisible basketball) is now a hit. Nothing can really stop Joey De Leon!

Itaktak na!

Itaktak Mo
By Joey de Leon (Joey to the World 2)

Agalugtae (Woh!)

Ang magsayaw ay di biro
Liyad Liyad Yuko Yuko
At meron pa liko liko
Parang kumapit ang tuko

Kahit ilong mo ay pango
At boses mo ay kay baho
Sayaw mo man parang mumo
Patakbuhin mo ang dugo

Chorus:
Itaktak mo
Itaktak mo
Itak itak itaktak mo (4x)
Itakatatakatakatakatakatak
Itaktak Mo

Agalugtae (Woh!)

Para malimot ang lungkot
Pati masira ang tuktok
Nang di laging inaantok
Sayaw na kahit kangkarot

Kahit ka lang nakatapak
Roll lang nang roll rock lang nang rock
Kahit nga lamang na palakpak
Bayaan mong tumagktak

Repeat Chorus

Itaktak mo
Itaktak mo
Itak itak itaktak mo (4x)
Takatatakatakatakatakatak (Heh!)
Takatatakatakatakatakatak (Huh!)
Takatatakatakatakatakatak

Itaktak Mo (Taktaktak!)

Start of Something New

I never opened my heart
To all the possibilities
I know that something has changed
Never felt this way
And right here tonight

This could be the start
Of something new....

Keeping the Holiday Spirit Alive Throughout the Year

Did you ever notice that people tend to get nice and mushy over the holidays? That they made a special effort to help someone they might have otherwise ignored. That the local newspaper or radio ran a charity campaign in December and many people gave to charity who otherwise doesn’t give.

These are all great things - as every good and positive acts helps fix the world - but the key, and I am writing this is BIG letters is to "TAKE THE ENERGY WITH YOU THROUGHOUT THE YEAR." We all have the opportunity to take the positive actions we took during the holidays and incorporate them into our daily lives. Then - and only then - have we taken the energy and have made ourselves better people.

So if you gave some charity, great - but make an effort to give some each month - I guarantee you will feel great.

If you made special efforts to help people - keep looking out for these opportunities. Yes they are opportunities, not burdens. Nothing happens by mistake. If you see an opportunity to help, it was there for you to see...and to ACT.

If you spent more time with your family, make a habit of it. If you controlled some bad habits (or addictions), be proud of yourselves and take this energy to continue it.

If you felt more spiritually connected, don’t lose the connection just because New Years has passed. Grow it.

Why don’t we consider the holiday season a fun and friendly wake-up call to act the way we want to act, and the way we know we can.

Another New Year

Traditionally, it was thought that one could affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by what they did or ate on the first day of the year. For that reason, it has become common for folks to celebrate the first few minutes of a brand new year in the company of family and friends. Parties often last into the middle of the night after the ringing in of a new year. It was once believed that the first visitor on New Year's Day would bring either good luck or bad luck the rest of the year. It was particularly lucky if that visitor happened to be a tall dark-haired man.

Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes "coming full circle," completing a year's cycle. For that reason, the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day will bring good fortune.

Many parts in the U.S. celebrate the new year by consuming black-eyed peas. These legumes are typically accompanied by either hog jowls or ham. Black-eyed peas and other legumes have been considered good luck in many cultures. The hog, and thus its meat, is considered lucky because it symbolizes prosperity. Cabbage is another "good luck" vegetable that is consumed on New Year's Day by many. Cabbage leaves are also considered a sign of prosperity, being representative of paper currency. In some regions, rice is a lucky food that is eaten on New Year's Day.

The song, "Auld Lang Syne," playing in the background, is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English-speaking country in the world to bring in the new year. At least partially written by Robert Burns in the 1700's, it was first published in 1796 after Burns' death. Early variations of the song were sung prior to 1700 and inspired Burns to produce the modern rendition. An old Scotch tune, "Auld Lang Syne" literally means "old long ago," or simply, "the good old days."

All are encouraged to enjoy New Years, remember that if you party so hard that you don’t remember anything, than the whole night was a waste. Let’s enjoy our family and friends and keep our wits about us. HAPPY 2007.
