Ang Kilabot!

Having a brother like you, is a lot like having a really good friend that I'll never-ever lose.

Happy 21st Birthday, Reyboy!

Who Am I?

Your best friend or greatest enemy, I am your greatest companion. I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden. I will push you onwards or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command.

Half the things you do, you might as well turn over to me and I'll do them quickly and correctly. I'm easily managed, but you must be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and, after a few lessons, I'll do it automatically. I'm the servant of all great men and, alas, of all failures as well.

Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I work with the precision of a scientist and the passion of a patriot. You many run me for profit or run me for ruin; it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me and I will put the world at your feet. But be easy with me and I'll destroy you.

Who am I?

I am Habit!

Good habits elevate you, and bad habits bring you down. The trick is to know which is which, and for you to control them, not let them control you.

12 Days

Another goodie from the Manila Bulletin’s De Leon’s Den

Twelve Days before Christmas
By Joey de Leon

From today is exactly twelve days before Christmas. On this note, did you ever wonder what gave the composer of "Twelve Days Before Christmas" the idea and inspiration to write this piece? And who originally sung this, a boy or a girl? Who was the "true love?" Well, pakialaman natin. I believe that the storyteller in the song is a she and the gift–giver was the man, probably a hunter or a farmer. Take note that on the first seven days, with the exception of the "five golden rings," he gave a variety of fowls and game birds. What happened to the last five days? Maybe, his lady love developed bird flu! Or maybe, the composer just ran out of something to say. Actually, the eighth day offering, the milking maids, are quite related pa to farming. But for the next four days, it’s clear that our lover boy just threw a party in the farm with the ladies and lords dancing and the drummers and pipers providing music. A clear case of nagkatamaran na.

  1. True Love refers to God
  2. Turtle Doves refers to the Old and New Testaments
  3. French Hens refers to Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues.
  4. Calling Birds refers to the Four Gospels and/or the Four Evangelists
  5. Golden Rings refers to the first Five Books of the Old Testament, the "Pentateuch," which gives the history of man’s fall from grace
  6. Geese A–laying refers to the six days of creation
  7. Swans A–swimming refers to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven sacraments
  8. Maids A–Milking refers to the eight beatitudes
  9. Ladies Dancing refers to the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
  10. Lords A–leaping refers to the ten commandments
  11. Pipers Piping refers to the eleven faithful apostles
  12. Drummers Drumming refers to the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle’s Creed

Just a few more days before the big day… rush, rush, rush!

Just Let Go

The other day my friend told me to let go.... he told me not to be so worried about what I'm doing, or what I look like, but to just let myself go once in awhile. This really got me thinking. Maybe I should let go. Maybe I should do something crazy, just so I can say I did. I've got many long years ahead of me, and plenty of time to live a fun and happy life.

Sometimes, an opportunity only knocks at the door once, and if you don't answer it at that particular moment, then you'll never get another chance. Life is tough, and most of the time we spend our days wondering why things go the way they do.

After thinking for awhile I'm finally realizing that maybe thinking about this so much, is wasting the time in which we could be going out and making the days go better. We're wasting the time we have here on Earth. By attempting to figure out why life goes the way it does, we lose time when we could be having fun, and living our lives to the fullest.

We are only here for a short amount of time. An average of 60-90 years seems long, but it goes faster then we realize. It's so incredibly important to live every day to it's fullest potential. When you're in your last years and laying on your death bed, do you want to look back and think of things that you wished you had done?

I don't know about you but I want to look back and remember all the times when I let myself go, and had fun. I want to remember the times when I actually let myself be open to try new things, and open the door to wonderful opportunities.

Life is only wonderful if you leave yourself open to be part of it. Think about it.

Go out and create some good healthy memories.

Always the Bridesmaid

To those reading this post, some may ask why I posted it in the first place, others would think why be a bridesmaid, still some might find it offensive, but please bear in mind that these are my opinions and my experiences... in the end I hope people getting married or playing bridesmaid would learn from this experience of mine.

For the nth time, I walked down the aisle as a bridesmaid. Good thing is that it was at Ja and Ka Roger’s wedding last Saturday, the 2nd of December.

I do not have anything against being a bridesmaid or a maid of honor. In fact, to be part of an entourage is an exciting experience. You get to wear a nice dress, walk the aisle in front of a number people (most of them you don’t know) and then mingle in the reception wishing to meet someone, on the side.

For this particular wedding, I didn’t know why but I was not that thrilled that I was thinking of not going and fulfilling my duties. It was also one of my inaanak’s 7th birthday in Tagaytay and my parents told them that I’ll be present. Though I’ve known of the wedding more than a month before its schedule, Joanna Camille’s birthday is a must for our family. Good thing my Mom is in Manila and decided that she’ll be the one to attend the birthday and bring our gifts. However, Mom was not able to go and I still went to the wedding.

The venue is quite far from Manila, so I calculated travel time and make sure that I’m early. My loving yaya, Juvy, went with me to the affair. One of the reasons why I wasn’t that excited was because I was not feeling well. Flu season is up and as usual, I was a victim. Another reason was that I didn’t know anybody in the wedding except for the bride and groom and the bride’s parents. I didn’t even have the idea that my dress will blend in with the rest of the entourage.

With all the thoughts, I greeted Saturday and the soon-to-be married couple by sending them a beautiful message and wishing them a lifetime of love and togetherness.

I even asked Maricel, the bride’s officemate and friend what time she’ll be in the Church. She only told me, “Ms. Rain, pupunta po kami, basta mapayagan, antayin mo lang. Subukan namin lahat ng puedeng gawin.” Hay! I’m sad. Sana dumating si Icel.

Dad’s driver fetched me at my place and went home to my parent’s house. My Mom wanted to see me before going to Cainta and Manang Luz fixed my hair. As early as 10am I was already eating lunch and by 12noon, I was all set to go.

Mom and Yaya Helen were also set to leave for Tagaytay but a call from NAIA cancelled their trip. Mom fetched my dearest Auntie Rhoda and Uncle Luc (from Montreal) from the airport and brought them home to Olongapo. Since they arrived at 11:30am, Mom rushed to NAIA, not seeing me before leaving the wedding. This was not the first time. It happened before during BF Ruth’s wedding. Thank heaven for MMS and 3G, Yaya Helen took shots of me. Even as I was getting in the car, with Mang Ruben and Yaya Juvy, she kept taking pictures.

1:00pm and I was still traversing C5, Yaya Juvy was busy checking the batteries of the digicams that we brought along and made sure that my “baunan” was with me, so was my pamaypay. I told Ja and Ka Roger that I was on my way and hopefully it wouldn’t be a madhouse along Junction and Cainta.

Though it was a short ride, I dozed off. Mang Ruben woke me up when we reached the church and I was really smiling. Why? I came in early, 1:35pm. Mang Ruben looked for a shady place to park and asked around for the nearest restroom. I refreshed myself a bit and started my way up the front doors of the Our Lady of Light Parish.

We saw the flower girls playing with their pink dresses and with their Moms, but we didn’t see the groom. It was close to 2pm when the bridal car pulled in with the parent’s bride and another vehicle with the rest of the entourage. One by one, the principal sponsors walked to the entrance. A buzz of excitement was felt.

If you’ll ask me, I was a bit irritated already. Why? The terrible sun was directly in our face and the coordinator was not performing her duties. She was busy chatting with the rest of her friends and yet she can see that the flower girls were already agitated with the heat. Then the flowers for the girls were distributed, somebody mentioned as she was distributing the flowers, “o, para sa bridesmaid na di natin kilala!”. WTF!

I didn’t ask the part to be the bridesmaid and what do I get? I was really hurt but I smiled anyway. I loved Ja as my little sister and her Mom’s such a sweetheart that I can’t afford to be a prima donna.

Another girl was busy fixing the line, while I was asked if I was a member of the entourage, I smiled and said “Opo, ako si Ralline, isa ako sa mga bridesmaid.” I deliberately talked in Filipino with an elevated pitch so that the rest could see that I didn’t have my bouquet yet.

For this wedding, they paired bridesmaids while walking down the aisle. Sorry for my partner, Roxanne, she was skinny and I’m fat. I don’t know why but all of them were walking a bit fast for a wedding. I on the other hand, was walking myself lazily to the front of the altar. Of course, I had to pose for my Yaya before sitting down.

I was wondering as I was fixing myself in the assigned row that the second row’ was empty. Hmm... and yet our row’s full packed. It was only the maid of honor who sat at that row to think that a principal sponsor was seated in a monoblock chair. Sad.

The wedding ceremony breezed through our faces. The officiating priest was not even reading the missalette that was given out to us. I loved the lady who was singing; her voice was enchanting. A good thing was that I could feel some wind inside the church. As the priest was busy performing his duties, I on the other hand was also busy looking for Maricel and Malou. Ha, wala pa din!

Two things that I always wait for during weddings are the part where the priest asks the audience if there’s somebody who doesn’t want the celebration to proceed and the “you may kiss the bride” routine. For this wedding, no mention of the first part but the last part was very funny. Ka Roger was too shy to kiss his lovely bride. Was he really shy or was he holding back his true feelings?!! Hahahaha! Gotcha!

It was pictures galore with the newlyweds and still, no Maricel yet. Like I said earlier, the other bridesmaids were not that anxious to be friends; they didn’t even call me for the picture taking. Ha! It was Ja’s Dad who told the photographer that I was still alive. Hay. Tip for the rest, befriend your seatmates.

Yaya Juvy was laughing beside me during the pictorials. I was really laughing my heart out, wondering if we can just sneak out and leave. Nah, I’m not that bad. I waited for everybody to leave and walk out as newlyweds.

Good thing that Ja’s Mom joined me in the car going to the reception. I would have been lost for sure is she didn’t come. Largo’s Nature Garden is inside a small subdivision but the place was cute. It was close to 4pm and the heat of the sun was still very active that everybody decided to go inside.

When I entered the reception, we didn’t find an empty seat. Yaya Juvy mentioned that I needed to take a short meal since it has been hours since my last meal. Good for us that the caterer was able to set up additional tables and we got to seat in the shade.

No one informed me that as a bridesmaid I had to wait outside until we were all introduced. Hah! I just watched the entourage enter the reception and gladly took pictures.

The food was okay. I was not able to taste the dessert. The line was too long to go back and our table was on the far end. As we finish our meal, Maricel called. She was waiting, with the rest of the CSM staff outside the reception, for an empty table. Lucky for us, that the five Batanguenos in our table left after eating and I told Maricel that they could come in.

The usual ceremonial duties of newlyweds followed with a male host, which name I forgot; he even sang during the reception. It was close to 530pm when everything was completed and most of the guests started to leave the reception.

What were my comments during the reception? (I always have them don’t I?!) I don’t think I have the powers to write everything down. Ha, ha, ha! Nothing bad, just that I still feel the rejection and all along, I thought it was only me that felt that way, marami pala kami!

I was happy that Ja and Roger are now married and we will continue to be good friends. They were there by my side during the not so good times and they really are a great couple.

I’m only sad that I don’t have a picture with the bride. I was able to get a picture with the groom before the evening ended but not with my little sister.

Yaya Juvy enjoyed posing for pictures within the reception as we were leaving. We dropped off Jannice’s parents at Marick. I was able to have a long chat with Janette yet we forgot to take pictures. Janette, pagbalik ko sa PHC, wag kalimutan!

I went home with a smile. There was no crying during and after the wedding. Everybody was happy and Ja’s all glowing with the beautiful event that just finished and with the upcoming new adventure.

As I reach our house, I was still dreaming of my perfect wedding… would it ever come?

I have never been married, but have attended my fair share of it. There are things that have to be attended to whether by the couple getting married or the immediate family or failing that by friends attending the wedding.

If one can afford a wedding coordinator, make sure that he/she is qualified to do the job and knows exactly what needs to be done before, during and after the wedding/reception. If a friend offers to do it, make sure you give instructions as to how you want the guests to be treated (at least with respect is expected).

Most of all, the couple getting married should take time to greet every single guest that came to the wedding. This is a must, after all you invited them to share your special day.

Yeah, I know... I can talk about it simply because it's not my wedding. Who knows maybe soon you'll have the chance to talk about mine...

Pareng Mike and Ka Roger

Yesterday, I greeted two men in my life celebrating their birthdays. Pareng Mike turned 27 while Ka Roger turned 28.

Mike called around 9am and I was singing on top of my lungs the birthday song. I was very happy to hear good news about his current post and love life.

Mike is the type of person who remembers to inform you about his current achievements and whether to say hello or just to let you know that he’s thinking of you, he’ll definitely make the effort. Suwerte talaga ng mga naging girlfriend at magiging girlfriend nito! He even invited me for a round of drinks at 4pm but with my current state, I declined and told him that WE will have drinks soon with the rest of the group.

Ka Roger on the other hand celebrated his birthday dinner at my place with his lovable girl, Jannice – aka my “little sister” and the very charming Maricel.

We enjoyed a filling meal of Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Barbecue and a full serving of Nido Oriental Soup. Yum! As for dessert, nobody can top the Midnight Choco Fudge Cake, Selecta’s Limited Edition Ice Cream Rendition of Chocolate Mouse and healthy bananas.

Though our dinner was cut short because of the distance in going home to their respective residences (as usual, they forget to bring clothes for a sleepover), we had plenty of laughs and kabusugan to last until our next chikahan.

Happy birthday, Pareng Mike and Ka Roger! Salut!

Party Favors

For this year we are ahead of schedule and preparing early compared to last year’s Trick or Treat at my parent’s place.

I was not able to get pictures last Sunday while I was busy completing 100 party favors for the village kids. However, I still have to complete some trinkets for the loot bags on Friday so I will just post more pictures later.

Here are some of the contents of the party favors for Saturday, 28th of October.

My EQ was very high while I was preparing such party favors! Whew!

Dance with Me

I was browsing through different channels before hitting the sack when I saw the final clips of Shadows of the Sun, a feel-good movie, and I can’t help but squeal with delight that I forgot that my throat hurts.

I heart Joshua Jackson! Yes, I do! He belongs to the top list of “men” I heart and would really squeal to death. I admire looking at his eyes and the way he reminds me of George Clooney. I love him as Charlie Conway, as Lucas "Luke" McNamara, the lovable Pacey Witter and with his latest roles as Jeremy Taylor and Duncan Shorter.

Thank to UpaPumkie

Josh is awesome and very hot!

Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have the magic technique
When we sway I go weak

Bloggers to Register?!

I was browsing through the breaking news section and this one caught my fancy.

China's Internet Bloggers Must Register -- Xinhua

Beijing (XFN-ASIA) - China intends to require its 17 million Internet bloggers to register under their real names, state press reported. Under the system, bloggers would be allowed to continue using their online pseudonyms, but must register with authorities under their real names, the Xinhua news agency said.

The real name requirement is an ''unavoidable choice'' if China wants to properly develop its blogging community, Xinhua quoted the head of the Internet Society of China Huang Chengqing as saying.

The society is the state-controlled organization in charge of developing the new system.

Xinhua said some bloggers used their anonymity to disseminate ''irresponsible and untrue'' information, and called them a ''bad influence''. However, the agency also recognised there could be privacy and free-speech concerns.

Huang acknowledged the concerns over free expression, but said there needed to be a balance between freedom and responsible Web use. Huang gave no firm timetable for implementing the system.

China has 123 million Internet users, according to reports.

Will this ever happen in the Philippines? Hmm… I wonder if this will create chaos among Filipino bloggers?

Sistahud with Kids

She’s back in Reseda after a short trip to Manila to pay respect to her Dad. Now she’s absolutely in her happiest state, since her two lovable kids are with her.

I’ll see them in a few winks and for sure it would be a hilarious get-together with tons of sightseeing and food trip!

Now, if only the rest of the Sistahud will tag along - then it would definitely be a blast.

Michael Finally Calls Sara

Thanks to ScofieldHH for the video link!

Michael was so emotional, it was heart wrenching. I think his love for Sara is for real and they will get together soon, though I don’t know how they will do it.

The best line for me during the phone conversation was "it was real Sara, you & me, it's real."

Whew, kilig to the bones!

Na na na... Kalabit Penge!

I’m a big Eat Bulaga fan. Whenever I can, I do watch the show. I love the opening presentation with the whole group every Saturday and I always laugh my heart out during the Bulagaan and Pinoy Henyo segments.

Recently Bulaga’s Dabarkads are growing in number. From Ruby Rodriguez, Toni Rose Gayda, now you’ll see the faces of Pauleen Luna, Julia Clarete and Cindy Kurleto.

Last Saturday, it was Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola who opened the show and sang one of their singles from their new album. I had fun listening to the song and the beat makes my feet do the dancing. Not only was the song catchy but even the lyrics are hilarious. For sure the song would be a big hit.

Kalabit Penge
Performed by: Jose and Wally
Album: Try Mo Lang! Sony BMG Music

Na na na na na na na na na kalabit penge
Na na na na na na na na na kalabit penge

Kahit san ka mang lugar ay may katulad ko
Naghihintay lamang sayo
Kapitbahay mo, kaibigan, tropa kahit na ano
Asahan mong ako ay parang asong susunod sayo

Sa birthday, kasalan,
Sa lamay, binyagan,
Pag libre
Andyan na ako

Chorus
Kahit hindi imbitado
Kalabit Penge
Makikitulog pa sa inyo
Kalabit Penge

Pag utusan mo,
Alilain mo,
Ok lang sakin pare ko
Basta't sagot mong bisyo ko (Ay sarap no)

Repeat chorus

Pag utusan mo
Alilain mo

For your listening pleasure, please go to Kalabit Penge Stream.

Before I forget, just by listening with Kalabit Penge, not only I was smiling because of the beat but I was smiling because I remembered a number of people I’ve met before that were exact examples of the character personified in the song.

Can you just imagine people who would just wait for graces without having to work for it? That is such a very interesting thought…

Ella Elline R. Mangaran

Because you're a friend who makes me smile and feel good, and laugh for no reason at all... I am sending this wish for a birthday that makes you feel happy - just the way I feel every time we're together.
Have a great and beautiful birthday!
