I was bloghopping earlier when I saw Geralyn’s entry on Mouse Potatoes. I smiled and then I laughed so hard that the other coffee addicts sitting on the next table looked at me differently.
Mouse potato (mows pohtaytoh) is a person who spends a lot of time at the computer. It is the computer equivalent of television’s couch potato. This word appeared originally in Gareth Branwyn's Jargon Watch column, in the January 1994 issue of Wired magazine.
Just like Geralyn, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen (with Harry, Carmen or Peter; Sir Igor, what’s the pet name you mentioned earlier?) and I do consider myself a Mouse Potato.
Why? Because I work online for about 7 to 8 hours a day and I tend to spend a great deal of my leisure time just surfing around.
Though you won’t call me a couch potato or a cellphone addict, my wrist and index finger is constantly surfing from one site to another. Surfing for what? Do ask Elline and she will definitely say that we love to read on lots of goodies on … Oops! Sorry it is our little secret!

Chinese Feast and Tons of Laughs
Ma’am Thucy is a very cool professor and super friendly. She’s Chloe’s former boss at UP Diliman and even though she’s not anymore my sister’s superior she remains close to her.
I was able to meet her number of times and I really liked her. She’s so sweet, smart, caring and she makes the best leche flan.
She’s currently in Toyama City, Japan and completing her post-doctoral studies. We regularly communicate, I love chatting with her and I do enjoy her stories and pieces of advice.
Recently she visited Manila for a 10-day vacation and we met her for dinner. She’s still pretty as ever and we were able to meet her other friends namely Sir Joel, Ms. Claudette and Ms. Lani. All three are colleagues, former UP-NSRI RA’s and professionals just like her. Len was also present, a former RA of Ma’am Thucy with Chloe.
We all enjoyed the Chinese feast and enjoyed the company with tons of laughter and good stories. Thanks so much Ma’am Thucy for dinner and the Japanese crackers.
We do hope to see you next year in Japan for the Cherry Blossoms Festival. Arigatou. Kiwotsukete, Ma’am Thucy!

Keep Smiling!
Another goodie from Rex Barker’s site…
Do you ever wonder what people are feeling when they smile? Do they smile because they're happy or do they smile because they want people to believe they're happy? Maybe they smile because they want you to smile and be happy.
A smile can touch a person's life in ways you can never imagine. It's infectious and can cause a chain reaction. It can be memorable to someone you pass on the street or the mall or driving... and it only takes a split second to smile and forget, yet... to someone that needed it, it can last a lifetime. Maybe I should smile more often.
A smile is like a flame. A flame can ignite another flame without lessening itself. The same is with smiles. Your smiles cause someone else to smile - and you both end up smiling even more.

Being Single
One of my sister’s close friends from MaSci is very open with his feelings and his words. I was reading his blog earlier, I can’t help but agree to what he wrote, and somehow it made me realize that I for one am still single.
I have been contemplating why most of my friends are single. Looking at them, they are eye candies, mature (I think), driven, motivated and all other qualities that most of us are looking for a partner but they are sticking to their status. I have been synching with some of them through electronic means and here are some of the best reasons inferring from our conversations....
- Most of them are at the stage of building a life-long career. Everyone is just hell too busy, that is why the electronic conversation most of the time. In fact, most of them are asserting themselves in their businesses or companies they are working at and all are on their way to the top (God bless them on this). Therefore, the time for dates, etc. are instead focused onto overtimes, even on weekends.
- Life right now is a lot harder than 5 years ago, when most of them were still students. And now that they are on their toes trying to tie their own shoes, a life full of complications is hard enough to handle, more so with an excess baggage that you can take some other time. Quoting a friend: "pucha ang hirap na ng buhay ngayon papahirapan mo pa dahil nagdagdag ka pa ng isang responsibilidad".
- Most of them are jaded little bitches and bastards who do not want to care anymore for the past took most of what they were holding onto. From third parties, to pregnancies, to trial-and-errors, most of them are shouting pain and grievances. (Wish ko lang wag masyadong jaded, di ba?) So some are still healing while others are still hurt.
- So since most of them are jaded, they are just waiting for the right person to come along, without even lifting a finger. In other words, nagmamahaba ng buhok. But in my personal opinion, they have all the right to do so.
Raf, for me being single at my age is by choice and I don’t regret that for a day. I am who I am. I see my friends who are not single anymore and yet they hate the world for the relationships they are in! They always wanted to change shoes with us and I can't blame them. There are times I pity them whenever I hear their stories especially the sad ones! Sometimes I envy their joys to which they actually happen.
Nevertheless, let’s have fun and enjoy our current state and try to learn from the experiences of our friends. We miss you, Rafael!

Friday Getaway
We agreed to get our PRC licenses all at the same time and bond for the day. We met for lunch, had a few laughs while talking about the usual stuff and had a blast over Chinese lunch before going to PRC.
Coming from Makati Avenue, we took a cab going to P. Paredes and took us about an hour and a half just to get to the PRC office. We were not so lucky that day since Mendiola-Legarda was closed because of a demonstration. Hence, traffic was so bad.
It only took us a few minutes to get are new licenses and though our pictures looked weird, at least it’s good for another three years. As we left the compound, it began to rain. Good thing all three of us brought along umbrellas. We hailed a cab and went back to Makati.
We agreed to go to Walter Mart Makati and were so glad that it only took less than 45 minutes to go back.
We hurriedly ran to the Cinema Level (better check the theater seats, Elline loved them!) to catch the 4pm screening. After the movie, Elline was able to get her cravings of the Amici gelato and even Marianna enjoyed the ice cream. I just watched them nibbling the delicious Italian dessert.
To end our very tiring day, we shared another Chinese meal and gladly posed for pictures. For Maria who’s currently in LA, we miss you.

Petroleum Buddies
There are times when it is easier to meet spontaneously, not by setting dates. Though we work side by side and have been exchanging regular emails; we still long for the actual interaction and exchanging of rants and raves.
One of the things I treasure most in my life is my friends. If I could make an invisible quilt for my friends, to wrap around them so they could wear my love as a shield to protect them and keep them safe in this world, I would.
Earlier today, I was out for some chores when I received calls from two of my dearest friends. I dropped everything scheduled for the day and hurriedly left for lunch. The reason for the urgent call cannot be divulged in these ramblings because persons involved can actually read this blog.
It was nice to see them both. One was sporting a new haircut and the other is still sexy as ever. Much as we wanted to go on with our conversations, we didn’t. The time spent we spent today was enough to build up one’s encouragement, keep the chin up and smile!
As the prices of the products of our trade continue to increase, I can only say that whenever we need pick-me-ups, a little laughter or a little advice, we can always count on each other.

The Mirror
Another goodie from Rex’s site…
A school head was alerted by the caretaker to a persistent problem in the girls lavatories: some of the girl students were leaving lipstick kisses on the mirrors. The caretaker had left notices on the toilet walls asking for the practice to cease, but to no avail; every evening the caretaker would wipe away the kisses, and the next day lots more kisses would be planted on the mirror. It had become a bit of a game. The head teacher usually took a creative approach to problem solving, and so the next day she asked a few girl representatives from each class to meet with her in the lavatory.
"Thank you for coming," said the head, "You will see there are several lipstick kisses in the mirrors in this washroom...”
Some of the girls grinned at each other.
"As you will understand, modern lipstick is cleverly designed to stay on the lips, and so the lipstick is not easy at all to clean from the mirrors. We have therefore had to develop a special cleaning regime, and my hope is that when you see the effort involved you will help spread the word that we'd all be better off if those responsible for the kisses use tissue paper instead of the mirrors in future.."
At this point the caretaker stepped forward with a sponge squeegee, which he took into one of the toilet cubicles, dipped into the toilet bowl, and then used to clean one of the lipstick-covered mirrors.
The caretaker smiled. The girls departed. And there were no more lipstick kisses on the mirrors.
When you have challenges in your dealings with family, friends and business associate, think creatively: What is important to them, what motivates the other person. Solving problems creatively is always the preferred approach to being at odds with one another.

A Few Rules of Life
Lerman's Law of Technology: Any technical problem can be overcome given enough time and money. Corollary: You are never given enough time or money.
Murphy's First Law for Wives: If you ask your husband to pick up five items at the store and then you add one more as an afterthought, he will forget two of the first five.
Law of the Search: The first place to look for anything is the last place you would expect to find it. Corollary: It will not be in the last place you expect to find it.
Kauffman's Paradox of the Corporation: The less important you are to the corporation, the more your tardiness or absence is noticed.
The Salary Axiom: The pay raise is just large enough to increase your taxes and just small enough to have no effect on your take-home pay.
Miller's Law of Insurance: Insurance covers everything except what happens.
First Law of Living: As soon as you start doing what you always wanted to be doing, you'll want to be doing something else.
Weiner's Law of Libraries: There are no answers, only cross-references.
Isaac's Strange Rule of Staleness: Any food that starts out hard will soften when stale. Any food that starts out soft will harden when stale.
Kenny's Law of Auto Repair: The part requiring the most consistent repair or replacement will be housed in the most inaccessible location.
Second Law of Business Meetings: If there are two possible ways to spell a person's name, you will pick the wrong one. Corollary - If there is only one way to spell a name, you will spell it wrong anyway.
The Grocery Bag Law: The candy bar you planned to eat on the way home from the market is hidden at the bottom of the grocery bag.
Yeager's Law: Washing machines break down only during the wash cycle. Corollary: All breakdowns occur on the plumber's day off.
Lampner's Law of Employment: When leaving work late, you will go unnoticed. When you leave work early, you will meet the boss in the parking lot.
Quile's Consultation Law: The job that pays the most will be offered when there is no time to deliver the services.
Loftus' Law: Some people manage by the book, even though they don't know who wrote the book or even which book it is.
Lovka's Dilemma: You never get away, you only get someplace else.

More Than Just a Smile
Smile at Me
(Close Up To Fame Theme)
Performed by: Rocksteddy
Funny how I fell for you
And the day you caught my eye
And my life have never been the same
Since the day I saw your smile.
As you shine above from everyone
You stand out from the crowd
Somehow I can't find words to say
You're indescribable.
And you sweep me off my feet
Everytime you smile at me, at me, at me, at me...
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me.
There's this feeling that I can't hide
That I couldn't get enough of you
I can't deny, I'm mesmerized
By the beauty of your smile.
'Cause you knock me off my seat
Everytime you smile at me, at me, at me, at me...
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me.
You light my way
You always take my breath away
You set me free
When everytime you smile at me...
Owie Smowie…. Smile! I'll do the dance for you while Mo will sing and play the music. Kilig moments ulit!
